CHESS AND LADDERS
Chess and Ladders is a free online chess variant that plays by full chess rules on an 8x8 board, with snakes and ladders scattered across the squares. Land on a ladder to climb, land on a snake to slide — every game creates new tactics.
HOW CHESS AND LADDERS WORKS
- Standard chess rules: castling, en passant, promotion, check, and checkmate all apply.
- Snakes and ladders are generated fresh each game, so no two boards repeat.
- Land on a portal square and you choose whether to travel — but only if the result is legal.
- Any move that would leave your own king in check is blocked, including portal outcomes.
- Pawns reaching the far rank promote to a queen, rook, bishop, or knight.
GAME MODES
- Play vs CPU — easy, medium, or hard computer opponents, untimed.
- Play with a friend — online rooms with codes, ELO ratings, and Bullet, Blitz, or Rapid clocks with increments.
- Pass and play — two players sharing one device.
- Daily puzzle — three new snake-and-ladder tactics puzzles every day.
